Still mowing well one year on

I hate dealing with gas and extension cords so have been hunting for a decent cordless mower. I experimented with a human-powered reel mower: way too much work in 90+ degree heat on a thick lawn. I tried a Lowes-bought Black and Decker cordless mower which worked fine for the first season but died after a winter in the garage, even though I had looked after the battery as the manual instructed. So I was a little bit worried about trying yet another battery-driven mower, but decided to purchase this machine after reading the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere. It is now more than a year since my purchase and I am still pleased with the mower.
Things I like:
* The battery is way better than my previous Black and Decker mower: it has lasted 1.5 seasons -- probably about 40 cuts -- so far and I have not yet noticed any diminishing charge. I have always assiduously charged the battery according to instructions in the manual (it needs to be charged at least every 2 months... I set my cell phone calendar to remind me during the winter).
* I can mow all my grass (about 1/3 acre) on a single charge. Admittedly, my lawn is pretty scrappy, with a huge number of weeds in places (inherited from previous residents!), but some weeds can be tough to cut and this mower manages.
* It is very easy to raise and lower the height of the deck
* I love being able to remove the battery: I can take it into my basement to recharge while keeping the mower in the shed. I also keep the battery in the basement in the winter.
* The indicator lights showing the level of battery charge are a simple but useful feature.
Things I wish were different:
* The wheels are positioned in such a way as to make it difficult to cut right up to walls and the edges of flower beds. I end up having to take my strimmer to these areas.
* It is fairly heavy. Mostly this is not an issue but on one slope, I can feel the weight as I mow (I always mow across the slope). Also, the weight means that the wheels sink in and make ruts on soft soil.
* I wish I could pull it backwards a few feet without the rubber flap at the back of the mower always dragging underneath the mower body.
* The plastic body feels somewhat cheap. Mine developed a crack on one side at some point last year; this appears not to have affected the machine's effectiveness, but makes me question the quality of the product.
On balance, however, I am pleased with the mower and have recommended it to family members looking to move away from gas mowers. |

| Easy to start, easy removal and replacement of the bag. A little heavier than I thought it would be. Easy to raise and lower the cutting blade. |

| I just got this mower a short time ago. So far, so good it seems to me. I wish they made this in this country! I had a CHICOM made cord mower I bought two years ago from big box store about this time of year. It is now dead! I tried replacing the ceramic resistor, after taking some readings, and still nothing. I paid about the same as much for my new Worx cordless machine. I really like this mower. First, it is super quiet, and easy to move. Secondly while it is heavier than the cordless. However, once you use this machine, you will be very happy with the new cordless freedom. READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST BEFORE CHARGING! The power source is very easy to remove and put back in place. The design and flexiblity is excellent! Safety features are good, as is construction. I bought it from a local business who sells and services these! If I have a problem, I will take it back to them! REMEMBER TO READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST. Now, what I don't like about this mower is it is made by RED CHINESE SLAVE LABOR! It should be made by AMERICAN FREE LABOR making a fair living wage, union or not. All things considered those Chinese folks make a hell of a machine, so God Bless them! NOW, LET'S START MAKING GREAT MACHINES IN THIS COUNTRY AGAIN! |
Excellent Battery Life

I bought this mower to upgrade from a reel mower as an alternative to borrowing my neighbors gas mower. I really wanted to stay green, but the reel mower was too hard to cut our 1/3 acre lot. This was a wonderful upgrade to make my life easier while still staying green.
The mower does a great job cutting the grass, and while I have only used the mulching feature so far, it seems to make very fine pieces even in longer grasses. The blade definitely slows down a bit in longer grass but still cuts just fine. It is very easy to raise and lower the bed if needed to go over it a trouble area a couple of times.
The battery life is the best thing about this product. We have 1/3 of an acre lot, so I was concerned about getting a mower where I could cut the whole yard at once without having to stop and recharge. Cutting our whole yard takes a bit more than an hour, and the battery status led still shows 1/2 battery left!
Amazon had super fast shipping and the best price (by far) as usual. Make sure you check around, as Worx constantly has rebate deals going on. Recently there was a $100 off this mower, and I saw at the end of last year you could get a free trimmer/hedger/blower ($199 value) when you bought this mower. |
great Worx mower, but slow customer service

| I read the reviews before I bought my Worx mower. I was prepared for a decent product and lousy customer service. That's what I got, although in the end the Worx people did resolve my problem to my satisfaction - after many months. I live in western Montana and have about 1/3 acre of lawn to mow. I used to use a 21" push Sears gas mower. The Worx does my lawn on one charge and I find that it pushes about like the gas mower. I have used it with and without the grass catcher and have no complaints - the bag actually empties easier than the one on my gas mower. I like that it is quiet and doesn't pollute the air. I have used it weekly for 2 months now and so far I give it a thumbs up. I still use the gas mower to do the hard stuff like dethatching and cutting a weedy section of my yard. My problem was that the mower arrived with a bent part on the handle that I tried to have replaced with a new part rather than shipping mowers across the country. After a month of discussion with Customer Service, they agreed with this approach, but sent the wrong part. I emailed them pictures of the problem part and spent months following up with them about the part. Finally, after 3 months, they said that they were not able to provide the part or replacement mower because this model mower (WG780) was no longer in production. They offered a partial refund of my purchase price, which I accepted. Fortunately, the bent part does not interfere with safe operation of the mower. If it had, I would have shipped the thing back to them months ago. My main complaint with Customer Service was that they never returned phone calls or responded to emails. I had to initiate all of the contacts. I hope this helps you. |
Worx is a lot of work

| Wife wanted me to get a little extra exercise and bought me this mower for my birthday. Everything went well until I used it, Worx is very heavy and is hard to push through tall grass even though it will go through it power wise. The mower came to me with a very dull blade so after mowing, little pieces of grass still needed to be cut. Now to take blade to get sharpened and will see how it does from there. 19" cutting path makes for a long day cutting your lawn too. Yes it electric, but not as quite as you would think either. |
Two seasons and still going strong!

I bought this mower at the beginning of last year's mowing season. Our old gas mower was pretty much on its last legs, and I wanted a greener option with the bonus of not having to deal with gas, oil, spark plugs, etc. This was a pricey option, but I figured if I took care of it I could possibly recoup the difference in maintenance and fuel, not to mention the hassle factor.
I was impressed right off the bat last season, as the mower made quick work of our weedy, bumpy lawn. We only have about 4,000 square feet of mowable lawn, so it's not a huge yard - takes me about 45 minutes to do front and back. I did notice that this mower is harder to push than our old gas-powered dinosaur. I'm not sure if it's because of the added weight of the battery, or if it's just the design. In any event, it does require considerably more effort to push than a regular mower, so be aware of that.
I'm now into our 2nd mowing season, and so far it's working just as well as last year. I can't tell you how nice it is to just drop in the battery and off I go! I can also turn it over to clean it without worrying about fuel or oil spilling everywhere. It's not as noisy as a gas mower, either - it sounds a bit like an industrial fan or something. In fact, I can still wear my MP3 player and listen to podcasts while I mow (although I do have to turn up the volume a few extra notches, though not so high as to be damaging to my hearing). Over-the-ear style headphones would probably be the best choice (as opposed to ear buds).
Another nice feature is the dead-man switch, although some users may find it a drag. By that I mean you must constantly squeeze a bar against the handle to keep the motor running. This can tire out your hands after a while, so again this is something for weak or physically impaired users to know. And when you let go of that bar the motor stops instantly, and I do mean instantly! Both start-up and stopping are immediate, which is very nice from both the ease-of-use and safety perspectives.
The battery is very heavy at 30lbs, and although the manual states that the battery should only last 45 minutes on a full charge, after 45 minutes of constant use I still have 2 out of 3 lights on the battery left! I think I could mow our entire yard twice over and still not run out of battery juice, so that's a nice surprise.
The charging unit has a red light to indicate that it's charging, which turns green when it's done charging. However, this season I noticed that the green light no longer comes on - it stays red no matter how long I let it charge. So I just charge it overnight and consider it "charged". The only bummer about the battery is that it must be charged every 30 days whether or not you use the mower. So plan on making a note of that for the winter months.
The only other downside I can think of is that it's tough to get in close to walls, trees, and other fixed obstacles. I have to go around with the weed whacker after I'm done mowing, which I had to do before anyway but now I have more grass left behind that needs trimming afterwards. No big deal really.
In closing, I will also mention that you're likely to get some strange looks from passersby when you're using this mower, and your neighbors will probably stop you at some point during your yard work to ask you more about it! |
Dissapointed- forgot about self propel

| I was very excited to purchase this mower and replace my gas mower. I used to own an electric mower about 12 years ago in a previous residence where I had a very small lawn, and I loved the ease and quietness of the electric mower. When I moved to my current home, I knew the lawn was too large (approx 8000-9000 square feet)for the battery, and abandon the electric mower to go back to gas. When I saw the Worx mower, and saw it could do about 17,000 sq feet, I was so excited, that I immediately researched and bought the mower. The mower itself is not heavy, I can easily lift it myself when the battery is NOT in the mower, but my goodness- the battery is HEAVY! Like a car battery. Once charged, I went to tackle the grass, and it cuts beautifully, quietly and I was pleased. Problem is, my yard is very hilly...and my first stretch was going downhill...I immediately knew my error as soon as I turned around....I forgot my gas mower was self propelled. The workout I would get using this mower would rivel any bootcamp/gym program. I cut about 1/3 of my front yard before reverting to the gas mower to see if maybe my grass was too tall (had grown a little more than usual since I was waiting for the new mower), I cut with the gas mower, then went over the area with the Worx mower- and it still killed me. I knew immediately there was no way I could cut my grass with this mower every week, unless I had the strength of the Incredible Hulk. The mower has now become a very expensive house warming present for my brother who has a very flat yard- and he loves it. I am back to gas... and sad. |
Great product and green option

I have waited for my old lawnmower to die for several years, so I could replace it with a battery powered option. When the time came, I researched and purchased the Worx ECO 19". It was a little smaller than I wanted and I was concerned about its ability to handle my yard combo of Bermuda and St. Augustine. I used the new mower for the first time yesterday and it was a DREAM! The weight/balance is so much better than my old gas mower, I flew through the yard. We have a flat yard with about 8000 square feet of grass and I was done in about 40 minutes. The battery still showed a full charge! No gas, no oil, no fumes, no cord and the noise is about half of the traditional mowers.
If you want to go green, this is an excellent product. |
The Real Deal!

My grandfather's old Lawnboy mower finally gave up the ghost and parts are no longer available. Having to mix oil and gas together was always something I found annoying with all the smell and hassle. I have owned a Black and Decker re-chargeable mower but the battery died after two years and cost a couple hundred dollars just to replace, not to mention the fact that they do a lousy job cutting thick grass and run for about a half an hour before they get too weak to cut much. So it was with great trepidation that I decided to try the Worx 24 volt 19 inch lawnmower. What a surprise! This thing cuts better and has the same power that my gas mower provided. It picks up leaves and does my entire 5000 square foot lawn with continuous consistent power and I still have more than half a charge left when I put it back in the garage! Regarding customer support, my mower was missing the charging cord when I opened the box. I called customer support, spoke to a nice lady who took my information. NO PROBLEM WHATEVER. I received the charger in the mail three days later. The battery is pretty heavy which means the lawnmower is not a lightweight but it is no heavier than your typical gas mower. The unit is also quite ergonomic, very quiet and the one touch height adjustment and collapsing handles work very easily and make it a snap to tuck the unit away neatly in small space. If you have any hesitation regarding purchasing this Worx mower, rest assured - this is the real deal!
