There seems to be one in every neighborhood.  The one people point at, the one the neighbors envy.  It’s that house with that perfect lawn.  The one that people swear was manicured with a pair of nail scissors.  Every blade is even and no leaf would dare to mar the pristine green.  Now, granted the owner of the lawn probably spends a lot more time than the family that forces their 12 year old to go out and mow as part of his weekly chores. Fortunately, though, there is a happy half-way point that even the poorest gardener can overcome in order to have a beautiful lawn.

  1. If you are the owner of a neighborhood lawn that could use some sprucing up, here are 5 tips to help you beautify your lawn.
  2.
  3. Plan to spend some extra time getting your lawn back in order.  Look for any dead or dying areas, till the soil and replant the area.  Purchase a bag of grass seeds and keep it on-hand so you can quickly till that area and plant the grass seed.  And then, after you’ve replanted, make sure that the young grass has a chance to sprout by putting a thin cover of mulch over it.
  4. Water…water…water.  Most lawns don’t receive enough water, or, they’re watered at the wrong time of the day.  Watering your lawn during the hottest part of the day can burn the grass.  A good indication of your lawn needing to be watered is when the blades turn to a grayish green.
  5. Fertilize your lawn and make sure it’s got plenty of healthy nutrition.  Just like we need food to maintain optimal health, so does your lawn.  Using a lawn fertilizer several times a year will do just that.

Regular cutting.  One of the most common mistakes made is that the blades of the mower are too low so the grass is cut too short.  This creates a “dirty” looking appearance as the roots are too close to the surface.  Instead, make sure that you’ve adjusted the blades so they are raised and the blades of grass are kept longer.

By following these simple tips and spending just a little extra time on your lawn, you too can have a front yard that can be the envy of the neighborhood.
