An absolute WASTE of money.

We purchased this litter box approximatley 2 weeks ago from PetSmart. For the first couple of days, this item worked perfectly. However, over the following days, I noticed that the green light was not on intermittently. I checked and checked the top/lid and eventualy the light would come back on.
One thing I did not like about this litterbox during the next twoo weeks, is the area the cat has to do its "duty" is very small, and many times, they would leave their "presents" on the lid of the unit, which defeats the purpose of this item.
The last time I changed out the litter, which was three days ago, the light was on after I was finished. I noticed today that the green light was not on again, and looked as if it had only been on for a few hours after the cleaning by the contents of the "bucket" in the rear. I took the top off, checked to make sure everything it was where it should be, but no matter what I did, the green light would not come on. I disassembled the unit, and put it back together, still no green light.
I called PetSafe to discuss this item with them, and they advised me since I did not have the receipt from PetSmart, that they could not help me. I also advised them that I had just tripped over the unit, and caught my foot on the edge of the unit, where tangs hang over and out from the product, and cut my foot approximately 1" and it did bleed. I advised the I really hoped that my foot did not get infected since it was cut on a sharp point protruding from the bowl that is used by cats to urniate in and deficate in (although I did scrub it, and apply antibiotic to it). I did not get a response. I then asked to speak to a supervisor, and was put on hold. After approximately two minutes, I was told that all supervisors were in a meeting. How convenient.
Poor quality product, and poor customer service. I am out of over $100.00 in two weeks time. It is a sad state that no matter what you buy these days, you must keep a receipt due to cheaply and poor quality items. |
What a mess!

| I ordered this litterbox for our girl kitty who's very picky about her litter. It worked for 3 days then it died. I haven't been able to fix it to get it working again. I don't know what's wrong with it, or if it's just a piece of junk. I wouldn't recommend this litterbox since it quit workign and I'm still trying to get it fixed. It's created a huge mess at home since it's broken! :( |

| Just bought the litter box on line, been in use for a couple of weeks. The only complaint I have is that the urine ends up in little clumps that don't get picked up. So the smell doesn't go away. I'm going to try changing the type of litter, but not sure it will work. |
Wouldnt buy it ever agian!!!

After reading tons of reviews of various automatic boxes, I finally settled on the Petsafe; and I really tried to like it. The cats used it, but I still had another box avaialble because the design leaves a very small area for a big cat to use. And with four cats I don't want anyone to have to wait too long for a box.
Perhaps it's just that my basement is too damp, but the litter would congeal on the floor of the box and on the ramp mechanism - which isn't easy to clean. Also, it doesn't take much josling about for the ramp cover to get out of position which turns the unit off. There were so many things that were close - but just not quit there yet.
I used this for a year before trying again with an automatic ScoopFree box. After just a coupld weeks with that, I unplugged the Petsafe and put it aside. |
Warning - absolute junk (in my opinion)

| I have had 3 of these and the 4th is on the way because the motor failed. Not to mention the cats kick all the liter out on to the floor because of the shape. The company does replace the bad units, but you will be spending more time cleaning this piece of junk than you would if you had a regular litter box. Litter gets everywhere and you will need to clean the gears, the lift, the motors, and all the parts because of this. It does not get the poop out of the litter, it leaves a lot of little pieces in the litter going round and round. Tried to get a refund, but they just send another unit in the mail. If you buy one- you have been warned. |
Excellent product, helpful customer service

One of our cats is extremely finicky and will pee outside the litter box (on the couch, bed, etc.) if the box is not pristine. We've gone through all kinds of litter box systems (Litter Robot, ScoopFree). Both our cats used all the systems, but there were problems with the other boxes (too smelly, cat didn't really like the crystals). The problems with peeing outside the box continued.
At our wits' end, we finally tried the PetSafe Simply Clean box, and it worked! We use it with Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract Litter. Our finicky cat likes digging, and the litter pan is deep enough to allow digging.
Yes, you do have to clean it thoroughly once a month or so. It does make a little noise, but it's not outrageously disturbing (we have a small apartment, and two of the these litter boxes). We've called the company once when we thought one motor was grinding a bit, and they immediately sent us a new motor free of charge. Of everything we've tried, this has been the best. Still going strong 9 months later. We also like that you can use ordinary plastic grocery bags to collect the clumps. A well-designed system. |
Works very well, the best you can expect from any self cleaning box

I've had this box for 3 months now with very few issues. when it comes down to it, no, its not a magic box that eliminates all work for the petowner, but it has significantly cut down on the amount of work I do need to do when it comes to my litter box. It has also done wonders on odor control since it quickly removes the clumps and sold waist and puts it in a covered container. There are a few note worthy issues that I think other buyers would like to know.
Cleaning: They should probably call it a self scooping litter box. You will need to clean this box. Right with 2 grown cats in my household and a kitten I change the waste container about twice a week. Depending on your litter you will need to do a full out change every week or two. The longer your base litter has been in there, the more odor you will smell from little bits left behind in the box. I also do a manual scoop whenever I change the bad. This removes some of those bits that fall through the other scooper. Overall extending the time between total litter changes. You will also need to clean the machine about once a month. I usually fill the base with some warm soapy water after I empty the box, then fold the arm down and let it sit for a few minutes. The arm can get kind of gross, but after a soak and a quick scrub with a cleaning brush it seems to get pretty clean without a ton of effort. All together I spend maybe 15 min cleaning the box and thats with the soak time of about 5 min.
Running: The box runs pretty quiet until litter starts to fall down under than pan where the moving parts are. You get a little bit of a grinding sounds. This machine also has an auto shut of that I find to be a little irritating. I have had large clumps push the lid up just a enough to make the switch turn off. Our kitten also knocks into sometimes causing it to turn off. I'm going to rig this somehow.
Litter: you need of course clumping litter for this machine to work. I have found that arm and hammer works better than fresh step with this box. I have fewer issues with the little bits with the arm and hammer. I also think its worth mentioning that I am currently trying the arm and hammer essentials cat litter made out of corn fibers and its doing a great job scooping that litter.
Over all, I really don't think I could have expected more from a self cleaning box. This is the first one I bought. The price is good and I'm very pleased with the performance of the product. I will buy this product again.

| Works great. No noise and doesn't disturb cats while they do their thing. Wish it would clean smaller particles better. Still have to scoop some. |
