| Don't waste your money. Worked well for less than six months then stopped scooping. Placed call to customer service, their diagnosis was a faulty motor and would ship new one out as soon as possible. It has been three months today, repeated calls have resulted in same non-answer. "part is on back order with no available shipping date known." Unacceptable, this is not 100% satisfaction guarantee where i come from and never worked well enough to justify cost of replacing unit every 6 months. |
Best automatic box for the money

| This box works great. It is not loud and seems to do a good job and reducing odors. We have two cats and it keeps up fine. It does need to be emptied every few days but the procedure is easier and less messy then other automatic boxes. What is messy is the amount of little that gets kicked out. If they would have made the box sides a few inches taller I would give it 5 stars. Still we are very happy with this box and hope it will last for the long haul.(we have had it a couple months now) |
A good compromise between function and price

I purchased this automatic cat box in 2009 and I have to say that I'm very pleased with the results. That said, there are some caveats to buying a machine like this.
It's a machine. Machines require maintenance. No matter if you pay $80 or $300, it's still going to require maintenance and this machine is no different.
I find that it is easy for our cats to kick the litter out of the pan because the walls of the box surround are fairly low. It's not a huge issue, but I have to vacuum the surrounding area with a Dustbuster frequently.
The fact that it continuously cleans makes it so you don't have to replace the litter much at all, saving me a lot of money in cat litter. You have to use good, hard-clumping litter, though, or the rake mechanism won't pick up properly. Also, the very fact that the machine is taking the waste out of the litter makes it so that the waste sits in its little deposit bucket and stinks. So it's best to clean it out every day or every other day. I also sprinkle Arm & Hammer litter freshener in the bucket to help with odor.
The litter "rake"/step ramp works quite well, but it can leave small bits behind due to the size of the slots. This doesn't bother me really, as it will pick them up eventually anyway, but it does happen. It picks up the majority of the waste however and if you want pristine litter, a run-through with a standard scoop will take care of the issue.
I've also found that it cleans the litter best when you make sure to keep the litter filled to the max-fill line. It pushes the waste onto the step-ramp more efficiently.
Make sure that the plastic bag you use to catch waste in the bucket does not interfere with the ramp mechanism. It's a sure-fire way to burn out the motor.
I've lubricated the area under the litter pan with graphite lubricant to make it so the motor that drives the pan isn't working so hard. It's essentially a heavy-duty clock motor (that's why it cleans the litter pan in an hour, I believe) and so I'm trying to extend it's life as much as I can. Dry graphite is the key here, because anything oily is going to pick up litter dust. It's used for lubricating locks and such.
One of our cats took to it right away, no problem. Our other cat is a bit skittish and he took about a week of acclimation to get used to the fact that the pan was moving and that it made a small amount of noise.
Overall, this is a great automatic cat box, especially given the price. It's simple, easy to use and keeps the litter clean. I'd recommend it to anyone. |
Buying my second one

| I replaced a littermaid with this litter box about a year ago. I have been extremely pleased with it. In fact I am ordering a second one today for downstairs. Great that normal plastic bags can be used. When I first go it I was convinced it was not working since you really do not see the tray move. After putting on a piece of tape on the bottom tray and the base it was easy to see it really does move. |
Loud and poorly functioning

I found the idea of the product very good and plugged it in immediately. One of my cats took to it immediately. The other was reluctant because of the original low mechanical whir which was barely noticeable. We left up the other box to let her have a chance to use the new one....
That wasn't the problem.
Within 2days, the low barely noticable whir turned into a clicking noise that was obnoxious. I tried many things, including changing litters and adjusting litter height. Too little litter meant nothing got picked up. Too much meant crunching noises above the clicking noise! Another 3 days and I came in to find that the unit was off. I pushed the top on so that it triggered the start mechanism. Came in several hours later and again it was off.
It never worked properly after that and I was forced to get rid of it. Not worth the money I paid for it. |
Great idea, but poor results

I bought the Petsafe Simply Clean litter box system, hoping that it would cut down on odor, and it would be easier to keep clean. It's a great idea, but results were disappointing.
Many times the mechanism would get stuck and this causes it to buzz, until it's cleaned or unplugged. It has a limited area for the cat to utilize, and the sides are not high enough to contain the litter when kitty is trying to cover his business. I spent more time cleaning and taking the conveyer belt apart to get it running again, it was more work then a regular
litter box. In addition, if the power goes out and stays out, obviously it can't do what it is suppose to. This is even more of a problem when the power is out for more then a few hours.
You would always need to have a back up litter box. I tried this for a good 3 months, and I can say that it actually might work better with small dogs then with cats. I ended up making my own litter box out of a huge rubbermaid tote. A hole cut for entrance, it holds plenty of litter, gives the cat plenty of rrom to turn around and cover....and keeps the litter in side.
to clean it you just remove the lid and viola'....easy cleaning. It has also cut down on odor as well, and you can even put up a stick up on the cover to help it even more. $9, it is by far the best litter box I've had for my pet. Bottom line, unless your cat goes directly in the center and doesn't cover it...this does not always clear the debri afficiently.
It also moves so slow that as it moves up the conveyer the clumps of litter and urine tend to break a part and leave leftovers back in the box, which defeats the whole purpose.

| Its noisy. It takes up more space than the old litterbox. The only good thing I can say is that my cat dosen't scatter as much litter outside this litterbox. |
So far, works great

Set up our new Petsafe self-cleaning-box three days ago and, so far, it's everything it's promised to be.
Printed directions that come with the box are inadequate but the set up is very easy if you watch the 8-minute YouTube video ([...]).
Some people complain that the unit is noisy. That hasn't been our experience at all. Perhaps because we placed the unit on a litter box mat (basic, cheap-o model bought at the local pet super store).
We have four cats, one of whom is VERY fat. They have all been happy to use the Petsafe unit from day one.
We use premium clumping litter as recommended; we use the Arm & Hammer product.
After lining the waste receptacle with a plastic grocery bag, we put a little litter and about a handful of baking soda in the bottom and that prevents any odors.
As I said, we've only used the unit for three days. If it continues to perform as it has been, it will be a life-altering product for us.
I'll update this review within a few weeks.Petsafe Simply Clean Continuous-Clean Litter Box |
Don't waste your money...

Worked well for about two months, then started having problems. Now at three months doesn't work at all. At two months had to start using WD-40 on it weekly to keep it going, now I've torn it apart and cleaned it up 3 times and it doesn't rotate anymore. That's a pretty expensive piece of equipment for two months of no hassle. It's getting replaced ASAP. Also, I have a larger cat (20 lbs) that peed outside of it because it didn't have a cover on it. Something to consider when looking at these types of boxes, I guess....

Best litter box!

| This litter box is the best I have found. I have owned cats for many years & this is by far the best and easiest to use. Both for large & medium sized cats. I just wish there was a cover for it. Very easy to set up and you just empty the little catch bin as needed. No need to purchase high dollar liners or filters like all the other automated litter boxes. Just uses plastic grocery bags to line the catch bin. Petsafe Simply Clean Continuous-Clean Litter Box |
