Good mower, does not get the area edges

Review Date: July 6, 2010
Reviewer: Reader from California,
I have a small garden, part of which is grass. This mower works pretty well, except for the edges (for which it is too bulky). I need to find an alternate solution to get the edges of the grassy area trimmed. Assembly was fast, about 15 minutes or so. I would recommend it if you have a medium to large grass area. For small areas like mine, you may need to find a tool that is more flexible.

I am pleased with this mower. I purchased it for mowing a ditch that is too steep for the riding mower and also for trimming areas that the riding mower can't reach. It is lightweight and easy to use. It's a bit awkward working around the cord, but that is to be expected. Overall I think it was a good buy. I don't have to worry about charging a battery or having to bother with gasoline and oil -- just plug it into the outlet, pull up the handle and it's ready to mow.

Reviewer: pgy,
I have been using this mower for 2 months now in a peak lawn-growing season and this machine came in handy. It is not very strong, does not like tall, thick grass but for regular gardens this is an ideal tool. Power chord is not included, pay attention to that. It is _very_ light and quieter than gas mowers and does not smell. I had no problem with this machine at all; it is a good idea though to stop in every half an hour or so if you have a large garden and remove the stuck grass from the side.
Good mower, BUT DON'T BUY FROM AMAZON.COM!

This is a good mower, AFTER I returned mine and get it from Walmart.

Amazon.com sent me a unchecked returned product. The box clearly has a return label on it. Inside, the mower is bare. All the packaging material is missing. Don't see a manual, so I download one from B&D. From the manual it says there should be a plastic bag with assembly parts. Nope, no such plastic bag in the box.

I ended up returning this mower, after spending 1/2 hr driving to the UPS store to ship it back to Amazon.

FINAL WORD: DON'T BUY FROM AMAZON.COM... If you do you may see my return label on the box!
Electric mower meets my expectations

I purchased this mower because of the number of reviews that referred to its lightness and ease of use. I am more than pleased that I bought it. It truly is like using a vacuum cleaner. Even though some of the reviews stated that it did not do very well with high grass, I found it to do fine with my overgrown backyard. Of course, the cord makes it a little awkward, but again, no more awkward than having a cord for a vacuum cleaner. This mower has been a dream come true, especially since not mowing is not an option with my yard. The fact that I do not have to be yanking up to get it started was an immediate plus. Having a problematic right shoulder, yanking was presenting more and more of a problem. I strongly recommend this mower.
Works great, quiet, lightweight, cord is sort of a pain.

I've been using this mower a few weeks now, and I like it.

1) Compared to gas mowers, it's very lightweight. I have a very steep slope in my side yard, and the light weight makes quick work of mowing that section. With anything heavier, I would have a tough time and

2) I wouldn't feel so safe. Also, the start lever makes a very nice safety feature because the motor only runs as long as your hands are on the handle, and it shuts off very quickly if you should lose your grip.

3) The cord is kind of a pain, I've already run over and cut one, but I've learned my lesson and it's getting easier. The cord, though, is a necessity to achieve the power, weight, and quiet that this mower offers.
Worth the money if your lawn is small

Reviewer: B. Krall,
Storing this does not take too much of real estate in my garage. Repairs are fairly simple and not too often. The only thing that I have done is to sharpen the blade and I'm off cutting. This is value for money and worth every $ that I paid for it
I Got this product from Amazon and it is the best lawn mower that I have used due to the fact that has been really easy to use. A real Plug and Play device and no prior experience is required. I just had to get used to the power cord that follows me around the lawn (any way since my lawn is also pretty small, with an extension cord, I am able to cover the whole lawn) .
I like that fact that it is silent and that one can enjoy the fresh smell of cut grass and not gasoline. Since it is light weight it is easy to be pushing this around with just one hand and that leaves the other for power cord management.
Mowed once and it died

I can't believe I only used this once and it died. I bought it late summer last year, and yes, maybe I should have used it sooner within the return window so I could have tried replacing it but no, I used my old mower and kept the new one for this summer. Big mistake. It did a great job mowing my yard right up until it died. I checked the cord and power sources, checked for mulch jams, nothing apparently wrong, just dead as a doornail. My old Black & Decker electric mower worked for 3 years and died. I've been avoiding the gas machines because of the fumes and difficult starts but I'm starting to feel like I'm renting, not buying electric mowers. Very disappointed.
Great buy!

Reviewer: I. Ciaston,
I ordered this mower against my husbands wishes. He really didn't want an electric mower since it would have a cord. I ordered it anyway. Since we have had it we have used it about 5 times now and it works great! We love it(even my husband). This mower is very easy to maneuver around the yard and along our fence line. Granted we do have a small yard (80x25). This is a great mower!
Defective lawnmower

I received the Black & Decker LM175 Electric Lawn mower. I used it for 10 minutes and it broke down. I was not able to return this mower because I threw out the box that it was shipped in. I took it to the Black & Decker service center and was told that I damaged the lawn mower by running over a rock. I did not run over a rock. The grass that I cut was level and free of rocks. It took 15 days for the lawn mower to be repaired. It is now in working order.
My previous Black & Decker electric lawn mower lasted 5 years without any problems. It was made in the United States. The defective model that I received was made in Mexico.

Best regards,

Bill B.
