Product Description |
The Sunforce 50044 60-Watt Solar Charging Kit gives you several more reasons to love the sun. It provides the power you need, while helping you save money and protect the environment. This kit is ideal for cabins, recreational vehicles, remote power, back-up power, and 12-volt battery charging. It comes with everything you need to start producing up to 60 Watts/4 Amps of clean, free power in all weather conditions. Sunforce kits are easy to set up and operate. | Convenient Power That Helps You Save Money and Protect the Environment The Sunforce 50044 60-Watt Solar Charging Kit lets you harness the power of the sun, the most powerful and plentiful source of energy available to us. This inexhaustible supply of power is freely available wherever the sun shines, and gives users the freedom to power their homes, RVs, boats, batteries, and electronic equipment far from civilization or right in town. Solar power can help cut your energy bills by reducing your dependence on the main electrical grid, and can also provide back-up power during outages. Unlike nuclear and fossil fuels, solar power systems are clean and pollution-free, and they require very little maintenance to operate. Sunforce Solar Panels are effective in areas of both high and lower sun exposure, making them ideal for use in the United States. View Larger | Everything You Need to Power Up The Sunforce 50044 60-Watt Solar Charging Kit has everything you need to start generating power. It includes four (4) 15-Watt amorphous solar panels with durable mounting frames, a 200-Watt modified sine wave power inverter, a 7-Amp solar charge controller, and a wiring kit with accessories for easy installation. With built-in blocking diode technology, this solar charging kit is designed to protect against battery discharge at night. You can also use this kit to maintain the charge on any 12-Volt battery for clean, silent operation of various electronics, such as deer feeders and landscaping pumps. The included charge controller features a built-in ultra-bright blue LED charging indicator, and is a great choice for automobiles, recreational vehicles, tractors, all-terrain vehicles, boats, electric fences, telemetry and more. About Amorphous Solar Power Amorphous solar panels are created by spraying silicon on to glass in very thin layers, and are commonly known as thin film solar panels. This process allows them to be better at generating electricity in all lighting conditions, including cloudy or shady environments. Sunforce amorphous solar panels are weatherproof and suitable for outdoor use. They have a maximum operating temperature range of -40 to 176-degrees Fahrenheit, require virtually no maintenance, and are also effective on cloudy days. They can even withstand impacts from one-inch hailstones at 50 miles-per-hour. Solar panels convert sunlight into an electric current, they do not store power. Sunforce Solar Charging Kits are primarily used to recharge 12-Volt batteries (not included), which store and provide usable power. The included 200-Watt power inverter allows you to use traditional 110-Volt appliances with this system. The included Sunforce 7-Amp Solar Charge Controller must be installed to prevent any connected batteries from overcharging. Once fully charged, it is normal for the charge controller LED to turn off and on as the battery voltage fluctuates from the discharge/recharge cycle.

| The product does what it said it does. Measured the voltage on a sunny day on a single panel and it put out about 20VDC. You could imagine what four of the panels can collect. The panel is now on the roof of the house collecting some sun for the battery. Even through the rainy weather it still collects whatever it can, so far so good. As a precaution of the wiring on the connectors I bound the two with wire tape to keep the water out and so far it works. I will go check the wiring later in the months and see if the wires are affected by rainy weather. Although, the inverter is a modified sine and putting out about 200 watts. The fan is a bit noisy, for the moment I don't mind it. The inverter is outside of the house and I'm inside. I have done some additional test to on the inverter, and the hertz is not stable and it does fluctuate a lot. I don't know how bad this is, but I have read some articles that fluctuating hertz can harm any devices that need constant hertz. (normally I get about 40hz - 45hz, and not the usual 60hz from an outlet) |
Great for the money

I love it! easy to install with all plug-in wiring, PVC frame and charged during a snow storm! Obviously, not at full streength, but no amorphous solar panel do not charge in over cast skies.
I use them to run my RV as I live off the grid. I live in 2 buses and an RV and this is a nice start.
I like it so much I ordered a second one! |
Came intact

| I bought this as a gift. Due to the past reviews I was worried that it would arrive broken. IT DID NOT! It was still shipped by Fed Ex as of 12/2009 and arrived in one piece. none of the panels were broken. Since it was a gift (and it's the dead of winter) it hasn't been set up yet so I don't know the final outcome hence only 4 stars. But if you are on the fence due to shipping worries - don't fret! |
ok but spend a little extra for something with higher voltage

| Everthig came fast and in good condition. It is easy to set up but I would rather pay a little higher electric bill than use this to charge my phone and bluetooth. Anything more the box starts to screem. I purchased a 400 watt converter and the same thing happens when I plug in anything stronger than my telephone and bluetooth. if anyone has any recomendations please post, because so far I have found this solar panel kit pretty useless. I plugged a small coffee pot in and the box starts to scream. I read almost all the posts here before I purchased this thing and thought it would be useful. So far useless. Please post if anyone has any recommendations. I will be more than willing to repost a better review if it is something I did wrong or misunderstood. All the best......... |

I now own four sets of these panels. Yes, I would have preferred to buy fewer panels with higher output but this package comes with everything you need and is so easy to set up. After my second set I finally moved the panels to the roof of the cabin I use them at, each set comes with enough wire to run to the charge controller inside the cabin (I now use a 25 amp controller, not the one that comes with the package).
This is a great "learner" set if you want to learn the basics of solar power and it is easy to add to it if you are like me and can only afford to add a little at a time. I may be buying a fith set unless I can scrape up enough money to buy the 60 watt single panel that sunforce makes (also available at Amazon)
And free shipping option, for a 60 pound package shipped to Hawaii via USPS Priority mail!!! I am becoming an Amazon junkie. |
Temporary installation

All items arrived quickly and in good shape. Installed in the backyard and charging a new DieHard battery with wires going thru a window. I called temporary installation because is intended as a minimum source of power for a 60 watts TV, modem and router, a lap top and a window fan, just a back up for power failures very common in Florida in the hurricane season.
When the season is over I will make a permanent installation in a shed and running a wire from the inverter to the house to have some AC to power some devices. I will provide a picture then.
Maybe I will see a small drop in the monthly bill. I recommend this product. Good value and performs as advertised. |

| We assembled the frame and panels easily. The instruction booklet was not well written, and a little vague. We tried it out for the first time over the 4 day Labor Day holiday. The dry-camp site was deep in the NM mountains with 15 others in the group. We were able to keep the 2- 6 volt batteries that were connected 100% charged. It was a big hit and we had lights when others had to conserve. Glad we purchased it, some of our buddies are getting one after seeing it. |
Neat package.. Good demo for beginners.

While camping with a large group, I hooked it up to 2, 6 volt, deep cycle batteries hooked up in series to a 1500 watt inverter. We had several strings of X-mass lights and a boom box running every night. The panels recharged my batteries from the NV sun no problem! several people recharged camera batts as well! from now on I leaving my noisey-ass genny at home : )
